Portable Buildings vs. Modular Offices

At Starrco, we produce state of the art modular offices and portable buildings that are specifically designed to meet your everyday needs. While both structures are similar, they are not the same. In this blog entry, we will explore the major difference between portable buildings and modular offices.

Before we go any further, we would like to make it clear that we are not comparing which structure is better but how they are different. Both serve important—albeit different—needs.

The number one difference between modular offices and portable buildings can be summed up with one word: flexibility. Portable buildings are normally temporary and are not conceived to be a permanent solution to a problem. So it is relatively easy to move or make changes to these temporary buildings when needed. In fact, you can disassemble and move the entire building to another location and be back in business within a relatively short period of time. These types of modular and portable buildings are best suited for manufacturing plants where space is limited and “changes” are inevitable.

As for modular offices, they tend to be more “permanent” making changes a little more difficult, but not impossible. The structural members are either anodized aluminum or steel with a rust retardant finish. Walls, ceiling and floor have a solid impact resistant core with a durable aluminum or vinyl covered finish. Windows and sliding doors are aluminum finish; swing doors are commercial grade steel. Can you move them? Yes, but they are not the type of structures that are made to be moved from one place to another.

Before you decide to build a portable building or a modular office, make sure you evaluate your needs so you can determine which one best fits your business.
