Safety First with Starrco

Workplace safety is a major priority at manufacturing facilities and warehouses around the country. At Starrco, we are committed to making occupational safety management easy by redefining spaces that emphasize safety. So, we’ve put a lot of engineering into making sure our buildings are manufactured to play their part in your safety plans and help you avoid your employees becoming a statistic.

Some of these numbers were brought into sharp focus earlier in June at National Forklift Safety Day. During OSHA’s official comments about the day, acting assistant secretary Loren Sweatt, revealed there were 54 forklift-related fatalities in the US in 2017 along with 7,500 forklift-related accidents.

Sweatt’s comments were a stark reminder of just how dangerous modern manufacturing and warehouse facilities can be and how important it is to engineer safety into every product we deliver.

For example, our Starrguard Safety Guard Rail system specifically for manufacturing plants and warehouses that have moving vehicles like forklifts as well as machinery or high foot traffic. They help prevent dangerous collisions into building and between vehicles. The rails are made from 11-gauge formed steel and structural posts.

Starrco buildings also have three-inch thick noise reduction panels to attenuate sound. They are engineered for breakrooms that help workers on the production floor meet OSHA’s noise exposure requirements and they manage noise levels inside administrative and management offices.

OSHA limits worker exposure to noise levels above 90 decibels, which is the sound level of a busy, city street.
When you want to use a mezzanine level for storage, our OSHA-compliant handrails and swing gates ensure fall protection. They are constructed from tubular steel and can be installed on roofs, stairs and catwalks.

But it is not just the building specifications you have to consider. Every time you embark on a construction project to create spaces for people, equipment or processes, the risk of injuries skyrockets.

In 2017, OSHA reported that one in five worker deaths were in the construction industry The Fatal Four – falls, being struck by an object, electrocution and getting caught between things – were responsible for 60 percent of those fatalities. This is where occupational safety management comes in.

Selecting a Starrco pre-engineered modular building for your construction project significantly lowers injury risks during construction because our wall systems are built off site at our factory in St. Louis (home of the Stanley Cup Champion St. Louis Blues). Each part, piece and component is finished by our highly trained craftsmen, carefully packed and quickly delivered to your loading dock ready to assemble.

Every Starrco building is installed by a small installation crew with little more than a power drill. They are completed 75 percent faster than it takes to build from scratch. With conventional construction, you’d need a complete crew with multiple trades and all their equipment on site for weeks or months. That’s a recipe for an accident.
